To minimize treatment, send you back to work too soon, and minimize your settlement.

The last place you should seek advice about what doctor to go to for treatment is the insurance company.  Your interests are the complete opposite of the insurance company.  Your treating doctor has a tremendous effect in the value of your case.  It will be the words on this doctor’s final report that determine the value of your settlement.

How do I choose my own doctor?

In most cases you can not choose your own doctor until 30 days after you have reported you work injury.  However, there are some situations in which you can choose your own doctor immediately.

Once you have decided you want to pick your own doctor, you need to determine whether the insurnace company has a Medical Provide Network (M.P.N.).  You have to request the website address for the M.P.N. from the insurance company.  If there is an M.P.N. you have to go to the website to choose a doctor.  You can choose any doctor you want if there is no M.P.N.  Simply send a letter to the insurance company that explains that you have chosen to switch doctors.  Your letter must provide the insurance company with the name, address and phone number of the doctor you have chosen.
